Tom Swift and the Hyped Movie Version of the Book Series
June 2nd 2009 01:28
It's quite obvious that movie writers and producers these days are the ones who used to read books like The Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew, The Three Investigators, and of course, Tom Swift. The reason is because they are coming up with movie ideas based on these books, albeit modernized. Tom Swift has just been optioned to be turned into a movie with Worldwide Biggies acquiring the rights to do so.
The Tom Swift series premise is simple. There's a father and son inventor tandem who makes all sorts of gadgets and gizmos to help solve mysteries and help people in the process. Tom Swift's technology-inspired adventures can happen anywhere, be it at the bottom of the sea of in outer space. This makes the movie plot even more open to speculation.
Still popular even when the time and setting of most of the stories are from the first half of the twentieth century, these all-time-favorite Tom Swift books were what preteen boys and girls who grew up in the seventies and eighties read. Some of those boys and girls are now the executives and creative people behind the movies we now enjoy. The nostalgia of the old days just shows up in their work and what they greenlight.
The appeal of the classic Tom Swift stories never quite disappears as the readers are taken to a bygone era when boys wore bow ties and girls wore balloon skirts. For this movie, it's still a big question if Tom Swift will be a boy in the 21st century or 1930s or if he will be animated or live action. People will also wonder who will be chosen to play the boy genius. For fans, what's important is that the movie will capture the spirit of the old Tom Swift that they used to read.
