The Feline in Heavy Footwear before Meeting Shrek
September 15th 2011 07:42
Two outlaws.
Out to unleash a murderous power.
That could destroy the world.
Sound like the concept for a good action movie? It is. And the only one who can stop them is (drum roll, please) –
A cat?
Meow.
None other than Puss in Boots himself, no less and in 3D.
Welcome back to the world in which a kingdom called Far, Far Away isn’t so far away, where magic and magical chaos can erupt out of nowhere, a place popularized by the stories surrounding a certain green ogre. This time around, it isn’t the ogre who is the protagonist but his feline companion, the same one with the suave Latino accent (courtesy of Antonio Banderas) and swashbuckling presence (when he isn’t horking up hairballs, that is).
This story is one that takes place before Puss in Boots hooks up with Shrek, however, and with Puss being the only character carried over from the Shrek franchise the field is clear for a whole new story to be told, one different from the now-tired storyline of the original series.
It helps that the tradition of using fairytale characters to people the movie is continued, with Jack and Jill being the outlaws, and with Humpty Dumpty being one of Puss’s companions (the other one is Kitty Softpaws – not a character from a fairytale that I can remember, but then again non-princess female fairytale leads tend to be few and far between).
Hopefully, the tradition of a storyline easy enough for children to understand, yet still populated with enough jokes for adults to understand, will be maintained.
Well, this is one movie I’m looking forward to watching, cute eyes, swordfights, hairballs and all.
