Filmmakers must be sensing how people are getting fearful about infectious diseases these days. Something new seems to come out of the woodwork every now and then to make our lives on this earth a little more interesting. Several movies have recently come out based on the idea that little critters are out there that can infect people and make them sick and turn them into zombie-like killers.

Yes, when zombies used to be more of a supernatural thing, recently the phenomenon has been turned into an infectious disease in many movies. Of course many horror fans are already familiar with the Resident Evil Series and movies like Quarantine. Now there’s this movie called The Crazies. It’s about a town where people begin to get infected by a pathogen that makes them crazy killers at first, and then into crazy killer zombies.

Of course, at first, only one person gets infected and the town goes abuzz with the related incident. Later, others fall prey to the same disease and chaos slowly but exponentially grows until the government suddenly comes into the scene and attempts to take control of the situation by, well, killing those infected and attempting to prevent further spread of the disease. In these hypothetical situations, nuking always seems to enter the conversation (which may or may not take place).

In the middle of all the mayhem are, of course, several people who don’t get sick and it’s their story that the movie goers follow from start to finish. Having come from the infected town, no one from outside would assume that they do not have the disease and anywhere they go, they are targets for termination. So what are they to do? And how do they know for certain that they are not sick? Such movies sometimes have sequels if they show open-ended endings. Maybe there will be a The Crazies 2 in a few years.
