Actress Michelle Monaghan takes on an unconventional role in a drama about a reluctant mother and her kid. The movie is called "Trucker and writer and director James Mottern gives new twist to a story commonly heard about a single mom trying with much effort to bridge the gap between herself and a son who's been away for too long for a bond to have formed between them.
Michelle Monaghan's character has an unlikely job as a trucker which takes her places and hardly gives her the time to do anything else, like have a decent love life or take care of a kid who she doesn't really connect with and considers more of a nuisance than a blessing. That's the situation where much of the conflict originates. But our independent woman doesn't have any choice but to take the kid along everywhere she goes.
The movie is really about finding one's role and purpose in a life that doesn't really have a place. This is emphasized by the life of a trucker as experienced by Monaghan - never really stopping for anything for too long and no time to really stand still and take everything into perspective. It's kind of a life with nowhere to go. The arrival of the kid serves as the trigger that brings about the changes that causes a lot of problems and arguments, but in the end, we all know how the mother and son will end up along with the other people in their lives.
Trucker is a conventional story with an unconventional setting and situation. It's attraction is how the actors and actresses like Monaghan portray the characters as believable, engaging, and real. Monaghan has received plenty of praises already for her portrayal of the single trucker mother and has got the attention of critics. Trucker also stars Benjamin Bratt and Nathan Fillion of Serenity fame. It's produced by Monterey Media, an independent company.
