Letters to Juliet - a Glorious Romp in Italy with Teen Dreams of Romance
November 22nd 2009 02:23
A movie entitled Letters to Juliet that uses Taylor's Swift Song as a carrier theme is definitely one aimed at teen girls bursting with romantic dreams or meeting the right guy in a romantic land. The movie has all the elements for a teen movie with star like Amanda Seyfried (Mean Girls and Jennifer's Body) and Christopher Egan (Eragon) in the lead roles.
What's the story about? Well, A girl is on vacation in Italy and she find a letter to Juliet hidden in the Verona courtyard of the fictional lovers. The letter was about a missed rendezvous with her romeo and it was written in 1957. She makes it her personal mission to find the woman (Vanessa Redgrave) who wrote the letter and help her to finally reunite with her lover. She does find her and her grandson. Together, the go on an adventure in Italy, discovering more of each other and finding new love.
Letters from Juliet is a movie teen girls would love to watch. It's perfect for them if they've ever read those little romance novels for young adults and dreamed of romance in exotic European settings. It's a fun romp on the road in Italy with all the sights and sounds of the country and its people. If you're not a teen, then it's a breath of fresh air if you've grown tired of the usual fare of violence in the movies.
Indeed, Letter's to Juliet will also appeal to older people because there are two stories in the movie - one about Seyfried's character and the other about Redgrave's. Both are about finding true love - something that has pretty much lost its meaning in today's society of prenuptial agreements and divorce papers.
Much of the movie is predictable, yes, but it's not so much knowing what's going to happen that's really important. It's the getting there that's more thrilling to the viewer. The magic of this simple and lighthearted romance will definitely leave you feeling good and perhaps wanting to book a trip to Italy as soon as possible and pay a visit to the Verona courtyard in order to leave a letter of your own to Shakespeare's Juliet.
