Jackie Chan Plays an Unassuming Spy in The Spy Next Door
October 20th 2009 01:44
Have you ever seen a trailer for the first time and know right after watching it that you would enjoy seeing the movie? The Hollywood movies of Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan are like that. Just by the trailer alone, you already know it's worth watching for fun and plenty of laughs.
True, Jackie Chan has also done a few serious movies including one where he plays an illegal Chinese immigrant in Japan. Yes, that one's got some really serious stuff but when he moves in the movie, you kind of expect him to be funny. It just shows we're so used to seeing Chan in comedies now that it's hard to picture him in dramas. It's not to say that he can't do dramas, it's just that he's perfect for action-comedy movies and everyone knows that.
Jackie Chan stars in The Spy Next Door, it's another guaranteed comedy and the trailer alone is very entertaining already. It's Chan doing what he does best - playing the unassuming guy who does amazing things to beat the bad guys! Like in his classic movies, you'll see him do his fancy and funny kung-fu antics that will delight you to no end even if you watch it again and again.
In The Spy Next Door, he plays agent Bob, a spy on loan to the CIA. A neighbor asks him to watch over her rambunctious kids while she was away.. Hesitant, he agrees anyway, seeing the task as a walk in the park. But of course we all know things don't turn out as expected. He's a lousy babysitter and the kids gang up on him and play dirty tricks to make him go away. Poor Jacky! But since he's a super spy with super spy gadgetry, he uses his talents and resources to keep the kids under control. That's when things get really entertaining!
But then the trouble starts when the kids accidentally download a secret code wanted by the bad guys. The goons then descend on the house and Jackie is the kids' only hope. That's when he uses his spy talents and martial arts skills to fend them off. But it's not enough, and the kids who had pulled tricks on him now become his allies, using his own gadgets to get even with the bad guys and get things back to normal. Oh, what would their mother say?!
The Spy Next Door is not much different from the other funny films of Chan like The Tuxedo, but it's something that fans and non fans would definitely enjoy watching with kids. It's got some clever special and action effects, too. Just tell them not to do the dangerous stunts Jackie and his costars pull in the movie.
