Immortals Movie Brings Back the Slick Dreamy Experience of the Movie 300

The Producers of the cult hit movie, 300, has come up with a new ancient period film that uses the same slick and dreamy movie experience that fans have come to expect from them.
Directed by Tarsem Dhandwar Singh, who is known for his distinct style in making commercials, Immortals adopts the look of the 2006 Zack Snyder movie, 300, which hardly shows any bright sun and if there is sunlight, it will almost always be subdued by clouds or it’s dusk already. Dhandwar is no stranger to strange and dreamy scenes. He’s the director of The Cell, which stars Jennifer Lopez journeying inside the mind of a demented person. Thus taking on Immortals which gives a nod to 300 may have been really more of a technical adjustment for him, owing to his experience.
By the looks and feel of Immortals—taking into account the teeth-baring, leaping warriors, super slow motion scenes, and painterly ambience, one might think that it’s 300 part 2—but it’s not. The story is about the demigod Theseus, the legendary founder of Athens; son of Aethra and fathered by both Aegeus and Poseidon. This idea of a double-fatherhood—one mortal and the other immortal (an ancient god)—was considered possible if the women were to lie with both a mortal man and god on the same day, or night—which was the case for Aethra when Theseus was conceived. Well, anyway, this should be one of the interesting parts in the movie Immortals. At left is Freida Pinto of Slumdog Millionaire fame as she plays Phaedra, Theseus's love interest. She has a daring scene in the movie which everyone should look out for. The movie’s being in 3-D makes it a plus.
Immortals could be a trendsetter when it comes to ancient period- and god-movies. With the success of Thor and the publicity brought by other sword and armor films, such as the Conan the Barbarian remake, there’s likely a big echo of this film that can be experienced in similar movies that follow after it. With increasing hype on Cavill’s new role as Superman in the movie Man of Steel, Immortals may just be the moneymaker a lot of people are waiting for. It does have a few surprises that may just leave you wanting for more.
