Ice Age Comes Out of Deep Freeze with 3rd Installment in 3D
June 23rd 2009 01:04
The first Ice Age movie came as a surprise. The graphics weren't really spectacular, and they weren't meant to be, but the movie was a fresh hit and so was the next one. Those who first followed it were no doubt intrigued by the teaser in which our quirky squirrel pulls a walnut out of the ice only to cause an avalanche. Funny! It intrigued enough to get a good audience and a sequel.
Wit the success of the first two movies, our Ice Age characters now have a third, and this time, it's in 3D! They've come a long way and this latest one is surely guaranteed to be a better offer if it's just for the thrill of experiencing it in 3D. Ice Ag 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is one movie that's joining the 3D bandwagon and the trend is expected to continue with more animated and computer-generated movies being shot in 3D.
The fave character in Ice Age 3, is of course, Scrat, our saber-toothed squirrel—still after that elusive nut. But when he used to go after it alone, now, he's got competition from a female squirrel, Scratte whose got the charm and wile that the bumbling Srat doesn't have. The story of Scrat and Scratte is a draw in itself in Ice Age 3. But each of the characters have their own little relationship story which echoes the main plot which has our unlikely sloth Sid caring for a bunch of baby dinosaurs who think he's mommy.
So we have all these things going on for our characters and they have to face the big problem in the end where the mother dinosaur must get her babies back and our bunch of animal friends must rescue Sid. Place all this in a setting that's even more primordial than the Pleistocene—like a lost subterranean world of Mesozoic era life—and you have an adventure movie about friendship and family that would appeal to kids and the adults alike. Yes, it's got adult humor but they're only hinted at, and this makes the punchlines even more funny. In one scene for instance, Sid tries to milk a napping buffalo only to discover the hard way that it's male!
