How Important is a Movie's Title?

... Blades Of Glory
... American Pie
... Rush Hour
... The Producers
Just reading the titles, would you have thought of them as a Comedy film? Blades of Glory sounds like a triumph to or of something, American Pie sounds like a patriotic film, Rush Hour to me sounds like an Action or Courtroom Drama type while the Producers can be a Drama/Suspense or Documentary about a Producer's life.
How does a movie's title affect their would-you-watch-it factor? For me, I see a lot into a movie's title and on whether I'd watch it or not.
The movie You've Got Mail for example caught a lot of attention mainly because it came out when Emailing was starting to become the more famous medium of communication versus postal mail. The cyberworld was getting into its "adolesence" and the people were curious.
The Disney-Pixar movie Monsters Inc. was very interesting simply because of how and what Monsters are for kids. An animated film from children's beloved Disney and Pixar studios making a corporation out of Monsters? Who wouldn't get curious??
The Day After Tomorrow -- Come on! Who wouldn't be curious with that?
Now, I Am Legend. I heard the title from a radio plug but didn't get the synopsis or teaser bit so I really thought it was a story about a pre-historic person becoming one of a well known legend of our time... if not, a period film about something very similar so I wasn't too keen on watching it. Seeing the trailer would be very different though.
Of course, biographical films are a different story so what will make you want to watch it will obviously depend on whether you know or want to know the main character in the film or not. Ergo, Elizabeth, Shakespeare in Love, Ray.
Think about it. If trailers weren't shown, like maybe in olden times when movies are only shown in the theater and you can only see posters but this time, think about IF only the Movie Title was all you know, what movies would you have come to see and be surprised at what you'd actually see??
