How Disney Enchanted me ... Again!

April 1st 2008 04:28
Hi! I'm Hazel... and I'm a Disney addict.

Disney has been part of my life since early childhood. My parents bought me BETAMAX tapes (yes you heard it right - i mean, you READ it right.. BETAMAX) of Disney films and other Mickey Mouse videos sometimes they rent several when they have to be gone from the house for a long time.

As a little girl, of course I grew up wanting to be one of the Princesses, but what I really enjoyed most about their movies is the music that goes with it. My parents bought me a set of "Multiplex" casette tapes (those that come in booklets with 4 tapes in it) complete with anything and everything Disney. Back then, the latest Disney cartoon would probably be Beauty and the Beast.

It's been a while since I last saw a Disney Fairy tale movie. Most of the latest Disney movies I've been seeing are Disney-Pixar collaborations -- which aren't at all bad, in fact I LOVE THEM TOO, i think I loved them too much that when the movie ENCHANTED came out, I was a bit hesitant to watch it.

Instead of watching it in the movies, I decided to wait for the DVD release instead. Over the weekend, me and my husband (who's much more of a Disney fan -- read: he's memorized Aladdin from Opening credits to end credits -- dialogues and lyrics to the songs) decided to watch Enchanted.

Our little boy was with us, we didn't think he'd like it beacuse he grew up with Disney Pixar as well as other Disney's new cartoons on TV. To our surprise, he liked it more than we did!

Let me start with the cast.
They were perfect! Leave it to disney to find the best talents for their movies. No, they never settle for anything less. To be honest, I have no idea who Amy Adams was and was afraid she'll ruin the perfect "Disney Princess" but lo and behold... she didn't!

She was almost like how the movie depicted her -- straight out of a Disney Fairy Tale cartoon! I still cannot get over her amazing similarities and her amazing portrayal of a Disney Princess.

And have you seen a better fit for a Prince than James Marsden? I've never thought of him as one but after Disney dressed him up and how he acted (very much like Gaston of Beauty and the Beast) he was again, Perfect!

Lastly, who would've thought Susan Sarandon would make a perfect Evil Stepmother?! I love how their cartoon versions look so much like them live. There wasn't even too much make up.. I don't think i still have to commend on their acting -- the main fact that I'm raving about their cast already says that.

Next lets talk about the Story
Knowing that theirs is a parody of almost all disney princesses' stories I didn't expect much from it, but it was weaved seamlessly into the movie. The little hints of different scenes from other movies may only be known to true Disney fans, but who cares, they all make one good movie.
I didn't have to worry that my son is watching it with us (much like any other Disney Movie), and true to anything Disney, it showed us lessons in life. Personally, it showed me that Fairy tales may come true but not necessarily how you imagined it.

It also wasn't too scary -- the villain-y part, so my son was able to watch it all through. The perennial side kick was funny and annoying at the same time, and he's scabbers from Harry Potter by the way

Lastly the Costume and Music
Costume was so cute, especially for girls. The idea that she cut it all out from the curtains or the comforter was funny and witty. There was one thing I didn't find so good though -- she was wearing a very modern dress at the King's Queen's Ball where everybody else was wearing medieval or traditional Kings and Queens' costumes.

MUSIC was absolutely fantastic! It's a classic already! What's more is that my son has been singing them all day! My son's only 3 and I can say he has a good singing voice, he's been singing parts of the songs for the past 3 days already and he keeps his "DVD Book" (coz the DVD release looks like a pop-up book) whenever we go out.

I haven't stopped singing as well.

So to end, I'd definitely give this 5 dimes out of 5. A MUST for all Disney Movie addicts like me. You'll enjoy figuring out which other films some scenes were taken out of.

This'll definitely leave you singing certain parts of the song over and over.

Just a confession, I've seen this with my son and husband probably at least 3 times since we bought it 3 days ago.
