Hell Breaks Loose in Drive Angry 3D

August 3rd 2010 06:06
Drive Angry, 3D, Nicolas Cage, 1969 Dodge Charger, road
I'm on the highway from Hell.

In Drive Angry, Nicolas Cage comes out as a very angry man after bad guys killed his daughter and took her baby. Now he’s going to go after the people who did this to him and he’ll make sure they pay dearly with their life. So it’s a revenge film and our antihero is going to do his dirty deeds with the help of a vintage car. Actually, two cars are featured in this 3D film, a 1969 Dodge Charger and a 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle.

Who are you looking at... in 3D?!
Of course, if it’s Cage (Milton) behind the wheel, you can expect that all the cars around him will go crash and burn. The 3D will be nothing after all if there are no car crashes, explosions, and flying vehicles. This movie promises to be a ride that will take you away on a front seat road-warrior spectacle which would likely either give you motion sickness or thrill you to no end in the comfort of your seat.

Green explosion flames, anyone?
Drive Angry 3D is more than just a Mad Max kind of movie though. It’s got some supernatural stuff going on and brings back memories of Ghost Rider and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, both of which starred Cage in the lead. In the first one, he’s given powers from Hell; in the other one, he’s got powers that allow him to do almost anything he wishes with the things around him. Here in Drive Angry 3D, it’s a man who rises from the dead to get revenge for the death of his daughter and rescue his grandchild in the process.

It's too bright out here. I'm here to cast a shadow.
Cage’s character, Milton (left), seems to be inspired by the poet John Milton, who wrote Paradise Lost—about the fall of mankind in the Garden of Eden. Milton’s goal in the poem was to justify the “ways of God to people” and to emphasize the conflict concerning free will and Divine prospicience, which appears to concern the dilemma of Milton in Drive Angry 3D. Is going out of the world of the dead to return to the world of the living what God would have wanted for Milton? The answer isn’t important. In this movie, all that matters is how Milton dispatches his enemies and save the child.

Who's next?
Cage seems to be coming out with one move after another since National Treasure. He’s been in the news before with reports that he’s dealing with a financial crisis brought about by overspending. But if he’s got one successful movie after another, he’s bound to recover fast and it wouldn’t really matter if he spent a lot of money on cars and other rich stuff. You got to admire Cage’s appeal. He’s got action and drama written all over him and he can play characters that can be a hit to both youngsters and adults alike. It doesn't matter if cars go violently crashing into each other in action scenes. Audiences know it's all for fun in the movies.

Drive Angry, 3D, Amber Heard, denims, shorts, legs, driver, car
You can't miss me in this movie.
In Drive Angry 3D, Cage’s Milton is a scraggly man—a look which reflects the character’s focus on his mission. He doesn’t care about his looks or how others see him anymore. He’s a man out for revenge and he won’t need a comb to do the job. He just needs a nice fast car and a chick to go with it. Oh yes. Amber Heard (left) is also in this movie. She gets to wear denim shorts and speak with a southern accent, which reminds us a lot of Dukes of Hazard femme fatale Daisy Duke (originally played for television by Catherine Bach; later by Jessica Simpson). If there are cool cars in Drive Angry 3D, there has to be at least one cool girl, right?
