Animated Movies Awards?

Before this years oscars (last March that is) there were a lot of buzz when Ratatouille, an animated film by Disney-Pixar was nominated for Best Animated Feature. Why the buzz? Many believe Ratatouille was BEST PICTURE calibre.

For years now there have been ongoing debates on where to put these wonderfully made animated films. Only once was an animated film nominated for Best Pictures with the ranks of Silence of the Lambs -- in 1992 when Disney's Beauty and the Beast enchanted the Academy.
To begin with, what were they looking at for the Best Picture nominees? The story? special effects? box office hits? acting? There will obviously be a debate on whether animated films CAN be or SHOULD be nominated for Best Picture alongside other feature films (non-animated).
Makes me wonder if there should be another body awarding the hardwork and creativity of these animators and production studios AGAINST each other instead of putting them alongside real actors with real props, sets, costumes etc.
THere are a lot of discrepancies -- err the actors are real, you direct them. THey have real facial expressions and human emotions which until lately have been difficult to capture in animation. At the same time, it's easier to maneuver physical movements in animated films, no need for rehearsals or trainings or body doubles.
There's definitely no point of comparison between a non-animated full-length feature film vs an animated film. Regardless of how advanced our technology becomes, there shouldn't be no comparison. There are way too much different efforts at each of the different aspects of film making for live action and animated films.
Wouldn't you agree to just have a separate body honoring great animated works?
